It’s that time again! What The Kpop is here to bring you another concert review, this time featuring the talented South Korean rock band, The Rose. This is a band that has captured the hearts of fans around the world with their distinctive sound— a captivating blend of rock, pop, and ballads. So, let’s dive into the magic of the evening of their The Rose: Dawn To Dusk World Tour 2023 concert in Atlanta.
The Rose brought their musical prowess to the stage, creating a memorable night at the Coca-Cola Roxy in Atlanta on Saturday, October 28th. The doors opened at 7 p.m. and the show started a little after 8 p.m. The venue had to wait to start the show because the line for general admission went on to stretch across the street! And of course, many fans had arrived earlier in the day to buy merch, socialize, and line up with hopes of getting a good spot up front.
The Coca-Cola Roxy provided an excellent backdrop for the concert. With bars aplenty along the side walls and luxurious chandeliers hanging from above, it features an urban industrial meets glam chic aesthetic. The well-worn wooden floor allowed the vibrations of the music to resonate throughout the venue which created a unique acoustic experience that perfectly matched the overall vibe.
Who Is The Rose?
The Rose debuted in 2017 and is comprised of four talented artists in their own right. Woosung is the leader of the band, the main vocalist, and the main guitarist. Dojoon plays the guitar and piano as well as being another vocalist for the team. Hajoon is the drummer while Jaehyeong is the bassist of the group.
They are known for their emotionally charged lyrics and live performances which often resonate with their fans. The Rose has a dedicated fanbase called “Black Rose.” The members of the band have made a name for themselves in the South Korean music industry, particularly in the rock and indie music scene, as well as in the global scene.
The Concert
Fans were delighted with the band’s intense musicianship and versatile vocals. The band seamlessly transitioned from soft whispers to sweet serenading to rocking out with powerful belting. Woosung’s unique voice and Dojoon’s various skills were particular elements of note. The environment evoked a subtle mature aura, making it clear that The Rose has an audience of all ages. The songs were lovelorn and the band sounds absolutely phenomenal live!
Highlights from the concert setlist included fan favorites “Take Me Down” and “She’s In the Rain” from their debut EP, Dawn. The list also included many of their well-loved singles such as “Red,” “Back To Me,” “Alive,” “Beauty and the Beast,” and “Sorry.” Additionally, they performed their latest hits from HEAL like, “Shift,” “Time,” “Cure,” and “Sour,” as well as “Lifeline,” “Angel,” and “Wonder” from DUAL.
The Rose also demonstrated their talent for storytelling. Their scripted interludes between songs were well-crafted and engaging, seamlessly guiding the audience from one heartfelt performance to the next.
Going through the setlist was a journey with soulful lyrics and vocals that felt like a warm embrace, with the members’ voices reaching out and grabbing the audience’s hearts.
The visual elements of the concert also left a lasting impression and were just as enchanting as the music. The use of the screen, lighting, and fog machines was great without being overdone to perfectly complement the songs. Themes of sky, space, and light playfully danced with the members’ forms, invoking a celestial, timeless atmosphere.
Before performing their first-ever released and most well-known song, “Sorry,” Woosung addressed the crowd of fans to thank them for getting The Rose’s most recent album DUAL to chart #83 on the Billboard 200 in its first week. He then spoke again to the audience:
“Thank you for listening. It’s all for you guys. It’s all from you guys. And, we really appreciate it. We are just happy that we can share music in our lives and just make memories together like this. It is all we want to do, so thank you so much.
We started this band not because of the reason of us as four individuals being special humans, but more because we wanted this music to be special. We believe that humans are all equal and all the same, in every part of the world. And, I think what’s really beautiful in this world are things like music, which brings us together. Music can get you through sad times, happy times, exciting times, and it lives in your memory and your sensory forever. So, this moment right here will live with me forever. Thank you.”
Woosung
As the concert drew to a close, The Rose left the audience with a sweet gesture, giving away roses to lucky fans. A perfect ending to a night filled with music, emotion, and connection.
