3 Great Historical K-dramas To Watch This October

If you’re looking for a historical K-drama with a little bit of it all— action, mystery, thriller, and comedy genres— then these top three are three of the greatest ones from the 2010s to watch (this humble author’s opinion)!

You don’t have to be a history buff to enjoy historical K-dramas! This stand-out drama genre never fails to showcase scenic landscapes, palace conspiracies, vibrant costumes and (of course) gripping love stories. Not only does it have the right ingredients to make a binge-worthy drama, but this genre also gives K-culture fans a glimpse into Korea’s vibrant culture and history.

100 Days My Prince

Drama: “100 Days My Prince” (2018)
Original Network: tvN
Episodes: 16
Duration: 1 hr. 15 min.

This series tells the story of the Crown Prince who is considered dead after he is ambushed. The truth is, he only goes missing and finds himself in Sojoong Village with amnesia. Along the way, he meets different people for 100 days which teach him a lot in life. One of those is a young woman he crossed paths with as children, but now he can’t remember her!

Flower Crew: Joseon Marriage Agency

Drama: “Flower Crew: Joseon Marriage Agency” (2019)
Original Network: jTBC
Episodes: 16
Duration: 1 hr. 10 min.

Based on the novel of the same name, “Flower Crew: Joseon Marriage Agency” steps into the world of three young men who are managing a successful match-making business. Their world turns upside down when one of their commissions ends in failure. The story progresses to show how the unfortunate event affects their fateful journey.

Queen For 7 Days

Drama: “Queen For Seven Days” (2017)
Original Network: KBS2
Episodes: 20
Duration: 60 min.

Based on the tragic Joseon story, this heartbreaking drama is about the love story between King Jung Jong and his Queen Dan Kyung, who was crowned and deposed within the span of a week due to rival political factions that controlled the king’s rule. According to historical legend, after the queen was dethroned and removed from the palace, the king would walk to the outside royal pavilion every day and sigh as he gazed at a mountain in her direction. After hearing this, she placed a red skirt, her favorite to wear in the palace, on a rock on the mountain face so he would know that she was well and that she still yearned for him.
