On January 22nd, a new solo artist made his debut into the Kpop world! Singer Holland made his official debut as he dropped the music video for his first single “Neverland’’!
The song is a soft, pop ballad with R&B influences that portrays the bittersweet lyrics of love and trials. Holland displayed his pleasing vocals through the song, already gaining fans with his debut single.
The MV itself tells the story of a young man who wants to love another guy freely and without discrimination. In their relationship, the two experience thrills of joy, as well as problems. In both the song and MV, Holland was able to draw upon his own experiences as an openly gay male in Korea.
Holland’s debut makes him the first Kpop idol to be openly gay. As such, many fans and people were excited to see him debut and praised him for his courage since Korea is known to be a very conservative culture and country (a fact proven when Holland’s MV was rated 19+ due to the topic and the scene including a same-sex kiss). After his single dropped, he even began trending worldwide on Twitter and stayed as one of the top trends for a couple of hours.
Congratulations on your debut, Holland!
